At Retirement Group

As a Financial Professional and Retirement Planning Specialist with Highland Financial Group, Susan Barber truly enjoys and excels at helping individuals, families, small businesses, educators, and non-profits to take their assets from working a lifetime, to build a secure retirement plan that will meet their goals for the rest of their lives.

She applies her more than 20 years in financial services, during which she has earned numerous awards, qualifications, certifications, and recognitions, to customize plans for her clients.  She has extensive experience in life insurance, asset management and long-term care planning to give her clients the peace of mind they seek in retirement.  This means helping people see how their assets such as pension, social security, 401(k) and 403(b) plans, IRAs, SEPs, Roths and inherited accounts fit into their overall financial plan to enable a comfortable retirement despite inflation, longevity, and volatile markets.

Boston Magazine has recognized Susan as a Five Star Wealth Professional since 2015.  She has earned an MBA and a BA in Economics, as well as a Certificate in Retirement Planning from the renowned Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  Susan recently earned the designation as Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®). In her spare time, she advocates for adults with disabilities, serving on the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Statewide Advisory Counsel, and she co-chairs the DDS South Coastal Citizens Advisory Board, monitoring group homes and day programs.  She never hesitates to mention her strong family, and that she and her husband are the proud parents of three grown children: a daughter in education curriculum, a son with autism who lives in a group home, and a son who is an environmental engineer.  To keep her head on straight, she also loves to garden, golf, and spend time on the beach.

The Retirement Planning Specialist title is awarded by Equitable Advisors, based upon the Financial Professional's (FP) receipt of a Certificate in Retirement Planning from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In a collaboration between the Wharton School and Equitable Advisors' affiliated life insurance carrier, coursework for the certificate was developed exclusively for Equitable Advisors FPs, and the title may be used only by FPs who have completed the required coursework and maintain the title through ongoing continuing education requirements.
